The Indian Arts and Crafts Association
Since 1974, the Indian Arts and Crafts Association (IACA) with an Executive Office in Albuquerque, NM, has been instrumental in helping to promote and protect authentic American Indian arts and crafts. The IACA is unique in that its membership is made up of individuals and businesses that represent the entire industry Indian arts: artisans, retailers, wholesalers, museums, governmental agencies, collectors and supporters. It is an international organization whose mission is to support the effective protection and ethical promotion of authentic American Indian arts and crafts.
Through publications, demonstrations, conferences and seminars, the understanding of American Indian arts and crafts is fostered. Programs are focused on educating IACA members and the public about the products and the laws, as well as providing basic business education and marketing assistance for the artisans.
IACA serves as an active advocate for the Native American artisans who produce handmade goods, and for the industry as a whole. It supports the State and Federal laws which protect them, as well as dealers and consumers against fraudulent reproductions and misrepresented products. It assists in setting standards and definitions, and provides testimony about the effect of misrepresentation on the industry.
The dated IACA logo is one way to be assured of purchasing with confidence. Only current members of the Association are allowed to use it, thereby showing that they agree to honestly represent what they sell, and to abide by State and Federal laws.
